Yvonne Orji, who stars alongside Issa Rae in the contemporary black-American comedy, “Insecure”, opens up on being a virgin at 33.
Orji, a rising star in Hollywood, is a first-generation Nigerian-American actress.
Orji takes on the role of a very sexually-active attorney but mock-sex on TV is actually as far as it goes for the 33-year old actress.
In a chat with The Breakfast Club Yvonne persisted that she is still waiting for that special guy.
“I’m a virgin now, yeah,” she told DJ Envy. “I’m a virgin-virgin… I’ve never [masturbated]. I promise you.”
When asked if she is somehow ashamed of being a virgin, the Insecure actress said she’s 100 percent secure in the decision.
“I’m proud of it,” she said. “Why not? The same way people know somebody who had a one night stand, it’s like, you can say that and I can say, ‘No, I actually haven’t.”
“Personally, I had plans to have sex when I turned 18,” she said. “I was dating [dude] and I had it figured out. But, I got to college at 17 in D.C and then I got saved.”
Yvonne wears her virginity proudly despite judgement from both her male and female friends. She even has her own line of tees that bare the slogan, “Keepin’ It Locked Til I Get That Rock.”
When asked if she wants to have sex, though, she admitted with a smile, “I absolutely do.”
Proving her acting chops are A1, the actress explained how she delivers those sex-scenes on the show so believably, but did admit that they do have an effect on her when the director calls “cut.”
“Molly be poppin’,” she said. “What’s funny is like it really does get in your spirit… We did a bulk of our sex scenes on the same day and I remember going home like, ‘Who I got in my phone, though?’ because this dude was just on top of me.”
A combination of her friend’s low expectation of sex, being “bamboozled by Jesus” and her parents’ strict advice helped the pretty actress remain a virgin at 33 and come to grips with the fact that waiting for the real one is actually worth it.
