The Pentagon has informed the United States Congress of the sale of 12 Super Tucano A-29 planes and weapons worth $593 million to Nigeria which is needed for the fight against militant group, Boko Haram.Initially the sale was announced on 2 August and was originally approved by former President Barack Obama’s administration. The Super Tucano A-29 which is an agile, propeller-driven plane with reconnaissance and surveillance as well as attack capabilities, is made by Brazil’s Embraer and costs more than $10 million. The Obama administration delayed the deal after some incidents that include the Nigerian Air Force’s bombing a refugee camp in January which killed 90 to 170 civilians.
