It commonly occurs in infections like influenza to gastroenteritis.

    Symptoms

Nausea is usually painless although unpleasant. Common symptom that accompanies nausea is vomiting. Other symptoms include dry mouth, faintness, diarrhea fever, dizziness and decreased urination.

More serious symptoms may include lethargy, increased pulse, difficulty breathing, excessive sweating and fainting.

    Nausea Prevention and Treatment

Nausea treatment varies in line with the underlying cause. Usually, it gets relieved by itself after throwing up. Treatment may include drinking lots of fluids and a clear liquid diet. For more severe cases, medication can be recommended.

When people feel nauseous, they mostly lose interest in eating foods and drinks, although taking light, plain foods like bread or crackers can help you feel better. You should avoid eating foods that have strong flavours, are greasy or fried or are very sweet as these might worsen nausea and even induce vomiting.

Natural remedies for treatment of nausea include ginger and peppermint tea, ginger and bland foods like oats or bread which can help your stomach settle. You may also be relieved by applying slight pressure to the inside of your wrists with your thumbs. For people who are prone to nausea, avoid engaging in physical activity soon after eating and eat smaller, more frequent meals. Also avoid riding in back seats if you know you might get motion sickness. If you start to feel nauseous take deep breaths and avoid thinking about vomiting as this might worsen your symptoms.
