Sarahah literally means honesty in Arabic but nothing related to ‘best policy’ is what has got youngsters all over the world hooked on it – the reason is far less simpler. It is like an everyday messenger but unlike WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger who are leaders in the field, Sarahah allows users to send anonymous messages and leaves no way for the receiver to reply. Sarahah keeps the identity of the senders hidden unless they want to reveal it.
Back in 2014, a messaging app called Secret had gone viral in a similar fashion. The app allowed users to send anonymous messages on a social platform. Once valued at $100 million, the app was pulled down almost one year later by the developers after several legal tussles and allegations that it encouraged bullying.
Sarahah’s usefulness is based on the premise that people are more honest with their comments when they don’t have to reveal their identify to share a message. It allows them to put their viewpoint without spoiling their relationship with others.
