New Update On The Round One Results Of Kenya’s Presidential Election

Votes of the Kenyan general and presidential election are being counted after a day of long queues and little trouble amidst fear of the violence that followed the disputed 2007 election.Incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta is hoping for a second time in office, but faces a tough challenge from his long-time rival Raila Odinga. Some of the votes have already been unveiled by the polling site but it could be days before the full result is known. Here are some of the round one results:
    1. Uhuru Kenyatta : 904477 votes (57.54%)
    2. Raila Odinga : 656293 votes (41.75%)
    3. Joseph William Nthiga Nyagah : 3249 votes (0.21%)
    4. John Ekuru Longoggy Aukot : 2569 votes (0.16%)

    5. Mohamed Abduba Diba : 2232 votes (0.14%)

    6. Japheth Kavinga Kaluyu : 1342 votes (0.09%)

    7. Shakhalaga Khwa Jirongo : 1026 votes (0.07%)

    8. Michael Wainaina Mwaura : 752 votes (0.05%)

    Raila Odinga
However, from the vote counts and percentage above, it shows that Kenyatta and Odinga are the top candidates leading the poll in which Kenyatta still remains the victorious one. According to the electoral body, to win outright, a candidate needs more than 50% of the vote, and at least 25% in 24 of Kenya’s 47 counties. If that threshold is not met, a run-off vote between the top two candidates will be triggered.

    Uhuru Kenyatta
