There was commotion yesterday at Ojokoro, along Lagos/Abeokuta expressway, after an underground ritualists den was uncovered. Consequently, two suspected ritualists were set ablaze by an angry mob while two policemen who attempted to prevent one o f the suspects from the mob action were over powered and inflicted with severe injuries.
The ritualists den popularly known as ‘Ajale’ is an underground man hole which stretched from one end of the road at Obadeyi bus-stop to an adjourning street where unsuspecting victims are reportedly kidnapped unnoticed and taken inside the manhole.
The den was uncovered after the cry for help from a woman was heard by a member of staff of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority , LAWMA who was sweeping. Unfortunately, before passersby entered the canal, the woman who cried for help had been killed, but her little baby was found.
Items recovered from the shrine included charms, carvings, white clothes stained with blood as well as native soap. According to an eyewitness account, the suspected ritual killers allegedly target pedestrians crossing or plying the road early in the morning and late at night, as the den is just about 50 metres away from the pedestrian bridge. They then drag their victims into the manhole, which stretches along the expressway, where they are eventually killed.
