A statement by UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Nigeria, Edward Kallon, revealed that the search could be extremely detrimental to the work the organisation is doing in the state. Kallon then called on the Nigerian government to provide clarification on why the building was invaded.
However, the army defended its action claiming that the search conducted was part of its counter-insurgency operation in the north east. In a statement signed by 7th Division spokesperson, Kingsley Samuel, the army said it had been conducting cordon and search operations in urban and rural areas within the state. According to the Army, the clearance operations have been yielding successes, the Punch reports.
