DBBW Knows: Male Lions Sleep For Nearly 20 Hours Per Day

In celebration of Worlds International Laziness Day and World International Lion’s Day which both coincidentally falls on today the 10th of August, what better way to kill two birds with one stone than by showing you the part of the male lion that no one ever gets to find out – the lazy part. The crowned king of the jungle have been known to sleep 20 hours per day.Male lions really look the part of the “king of beasts”. Their lives are full of violence, exploitation and sex — in other words just like human royalty through much of history. But while man prides himself as being the provider for his family, it works the other way with lions.Female lions are the only ones responsible for hunting down food for the whole pride of lions while the male only concern themselves with protecting the habitat. In other words, with the lions, the female is the breadwinner while the male is the homemaker.Consequently, male lions sleep an average 20 hours per day when the female goes out to get food. Fighting off threats to their habitat is a serious business for male lions though. Most male lions die in such fights. But in between territory fights, they are bad tempered and terrorize the females in their pride.
