Mayweather has vowed to his family that this would be his last fight, win or lose. If we do believe him, he’s definitely still going to be swimming in cash with his various business dealings. His ego could potentially play a role, but Mayweather seems to smart and financially secure to be baited back into the ring once he seriously walks away from the sport.
As for McGregor, there is a legitimate question as to whether he will compete again – as a mixed martial artist or boxer. McGregor will make more from this fight than he has in his entire career. Translation: he doesn’t need to fight in the UFC ever again.
However, he has expressed a desire to defend his lightweight title before the end of the year, with Khabib Nurmagomedov touted as a possible contender. That would be an unspeakably difficult fight for McGregor to take on fresh off an event as big as The Money Fight, but if he takes the bout and wins it, he’ll be even more over with the MMA community than he is now, and that’s saying a lot.
Whatever happens this weekend, it seems none of the fighters would be worse off. Everyone wins, everyone goes home happy and hearts and dreams remain far from shattered.
