The election commission said the voting process was free and fair and it was investigating whether or not its computer system was hacked. With ballots from 94% of polling stations counted, results released by Kenya’s electoral commission showed the incumbent, Uhuru Kenyatta, leading with 54.4% of the vote, against Odinga’s 44.8%, a difference of 1.3 million votes.
Many fear a repeat of the violence after a disputed election 10 years ago and there have been calls for calm. More than 1,100 Kenyans died and 600,000 were displaced following the 2007 vote.
