Foundation can make you look good or it can make you look, well, funny. The trick is knowing what works for you. You’ll need to decide on the kind of foundation that suits your skin type; that is, whether you want something creamy or oil-based like a liquid or stick foundation or you want something that helps you absorb oil like a powder formula or an oil-free liquid foundation.
Apart from this, you need to think about what kind of finish you want and just in case, you might just want to ask; what is finish?
Well, in simple terms, a finish has to do with the kind of shine your foundation leaves on your skin after you apply. It has to do with whether or not you want any sheen.
There are three types of finish you could get from your foundation: luminizing, matte, semi-matte.
Luminizing
For anyone with really dry, dull or pale skin, this might be the best choice. This is because a formula with luminizing finish contains light-reflective particles that blunt out fine lines and wrinkles. It will give your skin the extra shine it needs.
If you have oily skin, you will most likely not need a luminizing finish.
Matte
This leaves the skin with a smooth and powdery look because matte foundations absorb oil. You may not always find it labelled matte; sometimes you could find other labels like “shine-free” or “poreless”. If you have dry skin and you prefer matte, please make sure you choose a moisturizing formula.
Semi-matte
Most of the foundations out there are semi-matte and they can be used by most people. They provide the most natural look.
To get a semimatte foundation just take a look at the label. However, most of the time when a product is not labelled as matte or luminizing, it is semimatte. If you’re not sure, you can ask to make sure before you buy.
