Event: In the 2011/12 season, Robin van Persie managed to score 30 goals in 37 Premier League games, a pretty astonishing strike rate. But for some unexplainable reasons, Arsene Wenger agreed to sell him to his direct competitor, Alex Ferguson of Manchester United, for a fee of £24million which in hindsight now looks absurd.
Twenty-six goals in the league for Manchester United would win him the golden boot as he found the net on 30 occasions in all competitions – fittingly scoring a hat-trick in the game that would clinch United the title against Aston Villa in April of that season.Fun Fact: Van Persie was accused of raping an exotic dancer in 2005 and was consequently thrown in jail for two weeks. Fortunately, the chargers were dropped thereafter when the act was deemed consensual.
