Irate youths in Tela town, Gasol Local Government Area of Taraba State have stormed a police station in the town, seized four suspected kidnappers, lynching them before dumping their bodies in a river. It was gathered that the trouble all began when a vigilante group nabbed four persons with knives, machetes and charms in a village close to Tela town through a tip-off from the villagers.Angry youths demanded the suspects be handed over to them, prompting the Chairman of Gasol Council, Prince Yahuza Yaya’u, to bring in the police in the area. His words: “The DPO actually went to the vigilante group office to pick the suspected kidnappers and they were taken to Tela Police Station. That was when trouble started. The youths mobilised in large numbers and forced their way into the Police Station and took away the suspects.”
“One of the suspects escaped from the youths and was on his way to Jalingo. But we had information that they were going to Jalingo to have him arrested. So we alerted the Army at the Mutu-Biu Checkpoint. The man was arrested there and taken to the state CIID in Jalingo; he is currently under detention at the Police Headquarters in Jalingo”. Spokesman for the State Police Public Command, Mr David Mishar, confirmed that one suspected kidnapper was detained at the Police Headquarters in Jalingo, but didn’t say if anything is being done about the mob that took it upon themselves to kill suspects.
