
A 10-man Nigeria Air Force (NAF) General Court Martial, which tried Air Craftsman Kalu Bernard over the alleged killing of his girl friend and colleague, Solape Oladipupo, has sentenced him to death by hanging. 21-year-old Bernard had shot and killed Solape when he allegedly caught her in the arms of another man at the Air Force Base, Makurdi on March 12, 2017.

The judgement started at about 9 AM yesterday and lasted till 4:00 pm for a break. The panellists reconvened at 7:30 pm to continue with the 70-page court findings. The judge advocate, Flight Lieutenant MA Umoh, reportedly listed the eight-count charges to include murder, house breaking, impersonation, attempted murder, among others. The defence counsel, Abimiku Ewuga, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy. According to him, Kalu was his family’s breadwinner.
